Along the first turns of the road that leads to Passo della Serra, the visitor is captured by the unique beauty of this part of Irpinia land that divides the Valle del Sabato from Valle del Calore; This land, which for thousands of years has been known for the cultivation of the vine; And it is just here, on the Serra di Montemiletto, about 550 meters away, where lies the Tenuta del Meriggio, in which centre is placed the modern winery.
The Meriggio Estate was born from the passion for the vineyards and for the excellent wines that is possible to produce in these places;
We like to refer the name chosen to the atmosphere that are formed, especially in the aspens and sunny “controre” typical of the summer, when the time on these hills seems suspended, and the air is pervaded by an ancient magic.
The philosophy of the Estate is based on the choice of productive use, enhancing them to the maximum, the grapes from their own vineyards, starting from the certainty that they are implanted on exceptional grounds, and in the belief that quality born first in the vineyard.
The terroir, therefore, understood as the indissoluble union between the earth, the soil and planted vines, human intervention through innovative cropping systems, the vinification techniques associated with traditional methods of aging in the cellar represent the only way to achieve the highest quality.
The modern winery is built according to the principles of environmental sustainability: the production of sanitary water and electricity is met, during daylight hours, from heating and photovoltaic panels and rainwater is stored in a small lake where they also conveyed the wastewater filtered by means of a complex system of phytoremediation; the great wine-making room is equipped with innovative systems and steel tanks all temperature controlled;
The cellar has been converted into the underground part of the building, covered with a green roof and moisture ensured by a wall kept constantly wet by water seeping from the ground. These measures, together with the silence and the absence of vibrations allow aging and storing wines in large oak casks and fine tonneaux.
Traditional and modern winemaking techniques to guarantee quality without compromise.
